The international organization the World Mining Congress (WMC) was established in 1958 in Poland. The idea of WMC creation is closely connected with the name of Boleslav Krypinsky, a professor from Krakow Mining and Metallurgy University, a world class mining engineer, the founder and the head of this organization. The headquarters of the International Organizing Committee (IOC) of the World Mining Congress is situated in Poland. The official languages of the Congress are English, French, German, and Russian. After the VI World Mining Congress in Madrid in 1970 Spanish was added.

 

 

Russian Organizing Committee of the World Mining CongressThe key ideas of WMC are: organization of international co-operation, assistance and friendly relations among mining industries representatives. After World War II in Europe and in the world in general mining industry was viewed as one of the key bases for national economy development. This fact promoted creation and development of the Committee as a most important structure for economics stabilization during the crisis. Coal and steel were the prevailing resources, and the European Coal and Steel Association established in 1952 actually led to formation of the real European Union.

 

 

The goal of the WMC is development and maintenance of scientific and technical cooperation for the sake of the national and international progress in the mining industry. Other goals are - mineral resources development and ensuring of continuous wide sharing of information concerning mining sciences in areas of engineering, economics and safety, also including labour safety and environmental protection.

The Russian Organizing Committee of the World Mining Congress represents interests of the Russian coal industry in the WMC, execution of WMC decisions concerning Russian mining, and organizes WMC events in Russia.

On May 14, 2009 the 90th Meeting of the International Organizing Committee of the World Mining Congress was held in St. Petersburg with assistance of the Russian Organizing Committee.
