Georgy Leonidovich Krasniansky

Georgy Leonidovich KrasnianskyBorn on September 28, 1955 in the city of Prikumsk (Stavropol region).

Education: mining engineer-economist, Moscow Mining Institute (1978), postgraduate studies (1983). Doctor of Economics (1995), Professor (1997), an active member of the Mining Sciences Academy, distinguished economist of the Russian Federation (2004).

Author of 56 published works including 3 monographs and a text-book in Economics for institutions of higher education.

Education and professional experience

In 1978, he graduated cum laude from Moscow Mining Institute with Mining engineer-economist qualification. In 1994 he defended his doctoral thesis in Moscow State Mining Institute entitled «Design of the economic model for coal industry functioning under restructuring». A title of professor was conferred on him.

Georgy Leonidovich is an active member of the Mining Sciences Academy, an Honoured economist of the Russian Federation, a corresponding member of the Academy of Engineers of the Russian Federation, a member of the International Academy of Natural and Social Sciences.

After graduation from the Moscow Mining Institute he worked as a senior engineer, and then as a deputy chief of department for planning of coal supplies for coking and export, as a deputy chief of coking coal and export supplies department of Ukrglavugol of USSR Gossnab.

After completing his postgraduate studies in 1983 he returned to Ukrglavugol where he worked as the head of the economizing and efficient use of fuel and power resources department, and then moved to Donetsk basin as the chief economist in the mine by D.F. Melnikov, as the Director for Economic Affairs of Production Association «Lisichanskugol».

In 1989, he started working as the chief economist of the Mining Institute named after А. А. Skochinsky. As Deputy Director in Scientific Issues, he supervised a number of scientific activities on accommodation of economics of the largest coal producers to the market conditions and corporalization. He defended the idea of establishing holdings in the coal industry, developed systematization for production diversification trends in coal producing associations.

In 1993, he was appointed the First Deputy Director General for Economic Affairs of Rosugol Company, as a member of the Board of Directors. He directly supervised development of a number of key economic principles for the Russian coal industry restructuring approved by the Inter-Departmental Committee for Social and Economic Affairs of Coal-Winning Regions of the Russian Government. He was a coal industry representative in the Working Committee for Non-Payment Crisis Overcoming of the Government of the Russian Federation.

In 1995, he transferred to scientific (Mining Sciences Academy of the Russian Federation) and commercial (Invest TEK FIC CJSC) work. He delivered a course of lectures in mining recovery efficiency at the Advanced Training Faculty of Moscow State Mining University.

From 1998 to 2002, he chaired the Board of Directors of Rosuglesbyt Company, the largest solid fuel supplier at the Russian coal market.

In 2001, Georgy Leonidovich was appointed the head of the inter-section working team in coal industry problems of the inter-faction depute association «Energy of Russia» of the State Duma of the Russian Federation.

From 2002 to April 2009, he was the Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of EUROCEMENT Group CJSC, a large industrial holding specializing in production of construction materials and one of the top 8 cement companies worldwide.

In 2008, Georgy Leonidovich was appointed the chairman of the Russian Organizing Committee of the World Mining Congress.

Awards

  • Was awarded Mining Dignity Sign of all 3 categories for his contribution to the coal industry.
  • Was awarded a Golden Medal of Peter I of the Natural Sciences Academy for his contribution to regeneration of science and economics of Russia.
  • Was prized by the Mining Sciences Academy in economic researches with the award named after A.K. Khomchenko for his monograph «Investment strategy in the coal industry».
  • In 2004, by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation he was awarded with a title of honour «Distinguished Economist of the Russian Federation».
  • In 2005, he was awarded a golden «Miner of Russia» Sign under a resolution of the mining board and the Supreme Mining Council.
  • In 2007, Georgy Leonidovich was awarded a golden «St. Martyr’s Varvara» Sign under the Decree of Patriarch Alexii II for his contribution to spiritual and moral renaissance of the society, spiritual renewal of Russia, and his work for churches and monasteries reconstruction.
